Remington manufacturedd 12,501 Model 1863 percussion Zouave rifles for the Union between 1862 and 1865. This excellent overall Zouave rifle was made in 1863. The 33"" round 58 caliber barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. It has the expected date, 1863, at the top along with the V over P over eagel to the left with an additional V over P to the right and STEEL followed by H.S.L on the left side. It has the standard Zouave front and rear sights. It retains approx. 98% of its original blue with very light freckling. The lock and hammer have nice case colors. The brass nose cap, bands, trigger guard, patchbox, and butt plate have an even aged patins. The swivels, ramrod, and spare nipple in the patchbox are present. The stock is excellent with sharp edges, no cracks or chips, small dents on the left about 2"" behind the band on the left and on the right at the barrel behind the nosecap, very light storage wear, and with two strong cartouches on the left flat. The action functions correctly. Every Civil War collector needs a Zouave rifel!
