Left side of barrel reads: "Colt Commando .38 Special." Back strap stamped: "USAAF." Bottom of grip frame marked: "BMP.33." Ordnance flaming bomb mark on top left side of frame. Cylinder crane stamped with "6581," "L," and "X." "T" stamped on left side of trigger guard. No visible import markings. Caliber / Gauge: .38 Special Barrel Length: 4" Serial Number: 6581 CONDITION: Very good. Bright bore, with very good rifling. Metal surfaces show approximately 85% original finish, with some holster wear and a few surface scratches. Grips show some handling marks. Double or single actions function smoothly. Mechanically excellent. PROVENANCE: Approximately 49,000 Colt Commandos were purchased by the U.S. government during World War II. Very few were marked USAAF. For this one it appears: This revolver and a few others were shipped to Bechtel McCone Parsons Corp Group Aircraft Modifications Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Bechtel McCone Parson outfitted many wartime aircraft. It seems Bechtel McCone Parson stamped the USAAF and the BMP 33 was the revolver's rack number. The official name was the "Birmingham Modification Center" or "Bechtel-McCone-Parsons" but locals just called it "Bechtel-McCone.
