The 22"" round barrel on this gun has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling with light frosting in the grooves. The barrel has a smooth brown patina. The breechblock is marked U.S. over MODEL over 1873. The case colors have turned a smooth blue. The lock has the eagle with U,S. over SPRINGFIELD. The lock, hammer, butt plate, and trigger guard have approx. 90% blue. It is equipped with the correct Model 1879 buckhorn carbine sight and the sling bar and ring. The stock is very good with cracks or chips, a visible cartouche and firing proof, JC carved into the left comb, and medium issue wear. The action functions correctly. This carbine is a nice example of a gun that was undoubtedly used during the Indian Wars. They are fairly hard to find in unaltered condition as many were updated with later sights and bands.
