Description:
An English Sea Service flintlock pistol of .60 cal, 8 7/8" barrel with a moderately oxidized bore. The barrel has toned to a pleasant rich ocher patina and is marked with a crossed septer proofs as well as and "LONDON". The pistol is equipped with an American-made lock by Bird & Brothers of Philadelphia and is still clearly maker-marked. The lock features a bridled roller frizzen and some light geometric embellishments. The remaining hardware is brass with single ramrod thimble, tailpipe, simple triggerguard with starburst embellishment along the bow, simple sideplate, buttcap and a blank monogram plate atop the wrist; all have toned to a nice ocher patina. The walnut stock remains in fair condition as lightly refinished showing a number of old repairs, very well executed and not noticable.. A simple hickory ramrod is included, the frizzen spring is rather weak but the lock otherwise remains functional. A good example of and America adaption of a captured weapon, and possibly very rare.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
