Description: Serial #1818, .450 CF, 6" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some dark spots of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a good looking revolver that has all-matching numbers, and retains traces of the original bright blue finish, most noticeably within the cylinder flutes, and the balance turned to a mellow gray-brown patina. The hammer, trigger, and ejector rod retain traces of their original armory bright finish, with spots of dark freckling on the balance. The frame has the usual Tranter “football" marking on the right side, and has a New Zealand property and date mark deeply stamped onto the left side of the frame: “N80Z" (denoting acceptance in 1880). The checkered walnut grips has numerous small handling marks and blemishes, with an unusual wire wrap repair at the butt, coated in a dried resin along the top. The action lock-up is still tight, and the mechanism functions flawlessly. This is the very gun pictured on pg. 208 and 209 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; (2007), and would make a fantastic addition to any collection of rare British and New Zealand military handguns.
