Description:
"Beautiful American target rifle by Edward Anschutz. .36 Caliber, 31" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is a wonderful rifle. The top of the barrel is engraved “EDW ANSCHUTZ. PHILADA" with the lock is engraved “E. ANSCHUTZ" with tasteful scroll on front, center and rear of lock as well as on the hammer. This rifle features adjustable double set triggers and a handsome scroll finger spur trigger guard. The rifle is sighted with a hooded target front sight, no rear seat, windage and elevation adjustable tang mounted peep sight. The condition of this rifle is wonderful with its barrel retaining 80% evenly thinning original brown finish blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The lock, patent breech and tang all retain original color case-hardened finish, which has faded to a pleasing smooth pewter gray color with subtle colors visible throughout. The trigger guard and butt plate are of German silver and feature tasteful scroll engraving and bear a pleasing patina. The checkered straight grip walnut stock shows excellent figure and has a thin cheekpiece. The condition of the stock is excellent with 95% original finish remaining and with strong checkering. The forend tip is beautifully carved in a shell pattern. The rifle comes with its original false muzzle and what appears to be a high-quality modern brass bullet starter. The rifle is extremely honest exhibiting lovely surfaces and wonderful fit and finish. The forward tang of the trigger plate shows a vacant threaded hole for palm rest, which is no longer present. This rifle is featured on pages 52 and 53 in, The American Percussion Schuetzen Rifle by Tom Rowe. This fine rifle was formerly part of the famous Dan Schlegel Collection. A very fine, investment quality, American percussion Schuetzen rifle by this well-regarded Philadelphia maker.
