Description:
We are very pleased to offer what has to be one of the finest and most complete Harrington & Richardson U.S.R.A. Single Shot .22 target pistols in existence.  This H&R U.S.R.A. (6th Variation) pistol was ordered new by the original owner and has remained within the family, never before has it been on the collector's market.  This U.S.R.A. Single Shot pistol is 100% original and in superb condition, and comes complete with it's original serial numbered box, factory test target, factory sight hood, two rear sights, two front sights, spare trigger springs, an extra homemade grip, and a velour-lined storage pouch.  The original box, test target, and spare parts are in spectacular all-original condition, just as amazing as the gun is.  The original owner was meticulous in how he cared for his guns and equipment, and we were told he only fired this H&R with great care on special occasions.  The H&R U.S.R.A. Model was one of, if not "the"  most highly-developed and evolved single-shot match target pistol ever made in the United States.  The U.S.R.A. was the culmination of the Harrington & Richardson firm deciding to build the very best single-shot pistol ever made in the U.S. with absolutely no expense spared.  Producton of the pistol ran from late 1928 until 1941, with a total of only about 3300 pistols made.  During the production run there were numerous small variations introduced and implemented, and there were so many custom order features available that rarely will you encounter two U.S.R.A. models just alike today.  Outside of many of the more common special order features available like various sights and grips, a customer could specify the twist rate of the rifling, the chamber style, and even the bore size.  Each of the three match-grade barrel lengths available of 7", 8", and 10" inches had the rifling cut with a special machine that would simultaneously scrape the top of the lands for a perfect smooth surface that often did not neep lapping.   As Walter Roper (of Roper Custom Grips fame) was part of the development team from 1930 onwards, each U.S.R.A. pistol had a superb Roper-designed and manufactured grip on it, often custom-sized to the customer's actual hand.  Each H&R U.S.R.A. was hand-made by the very best gunsmiths that H&R had, out of the very finest materials available at the time of manufacture. Even with a retail price running from $25 to almost $44 dollars each over the course of production, the extreme amount of development and cost of construction eliminated any profit in these pistols.  H&R was not concerned with this, they wanted the prestige of being the company that made the best single shot target pistol ever made.   All of these factors went into cementing the legacy of the U.S.R.A. Model as the ultimate American-made single-shot target pistol, a reputation that has scarce all-original specimens very sought-after today.  As mentioned before, this particular example is in amazing all-original condition.  The factory blue finish is bright, beautiful, and in superb condition overall, rating 97%.  The deductions consist of a few scattered tiny little handling marks, a few tiny scratches on the front grip strap, and one spot where the blue finish did not take to the metal on the front of the triggerguard.  As you can see from the pictures, none of these deductions detract any appreciable amount from the exceptionally clean overall look of this pistol.  The polished bright hammer and trigger are mirror-bright and beautiful, free from any pitting or stains.  All of the factory markings are crisp, clean, and 100% legible, and all of the numbered parts are matching including the barrel, frame, and latch.  The bore in this H&R is pristine and spotless, with perfect sharp rifling from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle, and there is zero visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind.  The original factory American Walnut Roper 1-piece grip looks brand-new, free from any visible wear, cracks, chips, or repairs.  The checkering is still crisp and clean, and there is no soiling or oil-soaked spotting.  The action on this U.S.R.A. feels brand-new, tight and perfectly precise.  The barrel assembly latches shut solidly with zero felt play in it, and the top latch opens up crisply to access the barrel.  When the action is open the ejector fires with force, clearing any live or spent cartridge.  The hammer throw is extremely short as it was designed to be for speed, and it cocks back perfectly.  The trigger as you can imagine is exceptional on this pistol.  It breaks like a thin glass rod with extremely light pressure with no felt grit or slop, and there is very little travel.  There is ZERO doubt that this H&R will still shoot just as reliably and accurately today as the day it left the H&R factory.  As mentioned in the top of the description, this U.S.R.A. model comes complete with everything it left the factory with as well as numerous extra parts, all of which are in excellent condition.  If you have been looking for a "centerpiece" type addition to your vintage pistol collection, this is it!  It would be impossible to upgrade from this beauty in any way!
