Description:
This is a very nice, all-original antique National Arms Company No.1 First Model Derringer in .41 Rimfire.  This No.1 First Model was the very first of the large caliber deringer pistols that used a metallic cartridge, introduced in 1860 and made by Moore until 1865, when National Arms Company took over production until 1870.  This single shot derringer was designed with a rotating barrel assembly, a single action hammer, and a spur trigger.  The rotating barrel assembly was operated by cocking the hammer to the safety notch and pulling back on the right side checkered button.  The barrel assembly would then rotate out to the left, with the "knife blade" style extractor engaging the rim of the cartridge and pulling it out of the chamber slightly for the shooter to grasp and remove.    Made with both a brass frame and iron frame during production, this particular example is the much scarcer all-iron frame model with factory nickel plating.  It is a very nice un-molested piece in 100% working order.  The original factory nickel plating is still very much intact with only small patches of plating loss, mainly on the underside and left side of the barrel.  As you can see from the pictures, this National Arms Co. Derringer is still very handsome and the minor plating loss does very little to detract from the clean look of the pistol.  All of the factory scroll engraving and checkered "thumbprints" are still crisp and clean, and the National Arms Co. marking on the top of the barrel is still clear and legible.  The serial number "2870" is stamped on the underside of the barrel, and the last two digits "70" are stamped on the face of the receiver (visible with the barrel assembly rotated out to the left).  The bore in this No.1 First Model Derringer is good overall, showing nice strong rifling throughout the barrel with only some very minor light pitting scattered about.  The hammer still has both the safety and full-cock notches intact, and the trigger functions perfectly.  We have no doubt that this antique pistol would still function just as well today as the day it left the factory over 150 years ago!  If you have been looking for an investment quality antique derringer for your collection, this National Arms Co. No.1 First Model Derringer would be an excellent choice.  As an antique, this beautiful piece can be shipped directly to your home.
