Primitive Version of the British Brown Bess
Here we present an antique Flintlock Militia Musket, made circa the late-18th Century. This musket is a smoothbore .69 caliber with a pin-fastened barrel. It has a full-length stock and simple, unmarked iron components. It bears more than a little resemblance to the British Brown Bess, though made for a slightly smaller ball. The British used .75 caliber while the French (among others) preferred the .69 caliber. This is the type of indigenous musket that would have been made in the American colonies in the years surrounding the American Revolutionary War.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Good, smooth bore. The stock is solid. There is a long, stable crack along the grain of left side of the butt stock. There is a large knot in the right side of the butt stock, which is a nice bit of character.
