Description:
Westley Richards Explora 12 gauge SxS shotgun with left barrel rifled at the choke. Built as a ball and shot gun the Explora was made by Westly Richards so you could have the best of both worlds…a heavy 12 gauge “ball” gun and a gun to shoot shot shells.
This gun, number 7141 has 28” barrels. The right barrel has a .745” bore, .005” choke with minimum wall thickness of .050”. The right barrel has a .740” bore diameter, .040” choke at the rifled muzzle with .045” minimum wall thickness. Both bores are mirror perfect. Below I am attaching a comment from Westley Richards that explains the actual bore diameters versus the proofed bore diameters.
“Every Explora or Fauneta I have come across was out of proof like this gun is. I believe the factory had them proofed at the proper bore diameter then back bored the barrels when they were regulated with the “LT” bullets before they left the factory.
That partly explains why the gun is .011” out of proof yet has such thick walls.
In other words, this is normal for a rifle-choked gun by Westley’s.”
The stock has a 14 ¾” LOP to the end of the recoil pad and 13 ½” to the end of the wood.
There is an old repair in stock that you can see the “plug” on the right panel near the action. The entire gun has been restored and that might have been when the right barrel was sleeved.
Handsome gun and mechanically very strong, sturdy and on face. Weighs 8 lbs. 9 oz.
