Description:
Super Rare 1943 WWII WT (Wilde Drop Forge & Tool Company) M1905 Bayonet
Approximately 1,500,000 M1905 long (16" blade) bayonets were made during WWII by six different manufacturers.  However, only 60,000 (4%) of those were made by the Wilde Drop Forge & Tool Company (WT), making them by far the rarest of the regular issue U. S. WWII bayonets.  And, after the U. S. adopted the 10" bladed M1 bayonet to replace the 16" bladed M1905 bayonet in 1943, over 1,000,000 M1905 bayonets - including many WT's - had their blades cut down to 10" and became designated M1905E1 bayonets.  So, while the number of WT bayonets that survived the war with  their original16" blades is unknown,  the number is relatively low.  And, to find one such as this in excellent condition is rare. As shown by the photos, this WT is correct in every respect.  Its left ricasso is correctly stamped "WT/U. (Flaming Bomb) S./1943" and its guard is correctly stamped "WT" on the right front.  Very importantly, it has the classic brown plastic w/black rectangle grip panels unique to the WT bayonets.  This bayonet has one flaw- The release button is missing. I have had the handle apart & all the other parts are there & working just the button is missing. A button from any similar bayonet would work as there is nothing that would ID it as being WT. There is no scabbard. There was nothing specific about "WT" scabbard. Another words they are not marked "WT" The "WT" bayonets I have seen in collections had a M3 Plastic scabbard made by VP.
The blade has a few tiny “nail catcher” nicks. The blade measures 16 inches long. The plastic handles rate good.  The crossguard shows scratches and surface wear.
