Description:
SOLD...Excellent Smith & Wesson 1st Model Baby Russian. Here is an excellent and near mint Smith & Wesson “Baby Russian”.. Hard to get photos of these high condition nickel plated guns.. Gun looks much better in hand than the photos show. I am not real good with a camera but here we go.. I have had the second models in this condition but not a 1st model... S/N 7966 and MFG. In 1876.. This model was only made 1876 to 1877.. with about 25548 made total. Has the standard 3 1/4" barrel and is in the .38 S&W caliber. All matching numbers of course. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun.. There is NO cylinder front to rear movement or side to side wobble.. The lock up is like a new gun with no cylinder movement what so ever.. Rock solid like new barrel latch to the frame fit as well as the hinge..  Both the safety notch and full cock notches on the hammer are perfect and positive.... As you can see this gun is in excellent condition.. Near 98% over all but I will break it down for you part by part.. The barrel has 99% original bright nickel finish.. With a bright flash light, you can see some VERY small pin point specks below the barrel rib on the left side..  The cylinder has some small specks of flaking but still in the 90% to 95% range.. The frame has 95% to 98% including the front and rear grip straps. Again, just some very small pin point specks that you can see with a bright light.. There is a scratch on the bottom of the back strap as you can see in the close up photo. ... May have been dropped or hit with something.. Pretty minor but it is there and should be mentioned for an accurate and honest description..  No other dings and no pitting.. The barrel latch shows 98% bright blue. The Trigger shows 100% bright blue on the upper portion and the knurling but has thinned out to gray at the very bottom..so about 75% blue on the trigger... The trip latch on the bottom of the frame even has 80% bright blue remaining... The hammer just shows traces of case colors in good light and has mostly faded out to a silver gray color probably faded out from direct sun light.. The grips are excellent with no cracks or chips. A perfect factory snap on fit.. They show all the very fine checkering but have faded to a brownish color again from probably being subjected to direct sun light.. All the markings are excellent.. The bore is excellent and near mint bright and shiny with just a couple tiny specks.. The cylinder chambers are excellent mint bright with no roughness.. Excellent untouched front sight never filed on or messed with.. The barrel latch screw only shows some slight minor turning but all the other screws look untouched and never turned. All the take down pins are excellent and never pecked on..  The gun is absolutely good enough to put in an original picture box if you have one.. But you will probably pay more for the box than I am asking for this gun.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.. $15 insured shipping.
