Description: Confederate States "Richmond Rifle" Rifled Musket in .58 Minie Ball Caliber. This Gun appears all Original and Authentic. No Visible Serial Number. Mfg. in 1863 at the Richmond Armory in Virginia. These Rifled Muskets were made using captured machinery from the Harper's Ferry Arsenal captured in 1861. 31,000 of these were manufactured during the War. This Rifle has a 13 5/8" LOP and a 40" barrel with a VERY GOOD Bore for it's age. The Metal Finish on the Barrel and Receiver are also in VERY GOOD condition for the age of the gun showing dark iron patina and light pitting. The Black Walnut Stock and Forend are in VERY GOOD condition for their age with usual handling marks and nicks but no cracks. The left side of the stock shows a gouge near the initials S.C.C that have been carved into it. On the right side of the stock there is a Shield Shaped Impression etched into the wood. The Rifled Musket has "1863" stamped behind the hammer and "C.S. Richmond, VA" stamped on the lock plate. The barrel is stamped "1864" and has the "VP" and Eagle Head Inspection and Proof Stamps. Front and Rear Sights appear original. The Brass Buttplate is in VERY GOOD condition with normal patina while the Brass Nosecap has a mottled brown patina. All Original Barrel Bands show the centrally struck Richmond Style "U". Sling Swivels are present on the Middle Barrel Band and the Trigger Guard. The Musket operates normally, half cock, full cock and trigger, all function properly. This is a VERY NICE example of a Confederate States "Richmond Rifle" Rifled Musket and a GREAT piece of American Military History. Weight: 8.6 lbs. More photos available upon request.
