He was noted for his sporting and target rifles, all of which exhibited the highest craftsmanship, equal to the best English guns of that time. This specific rifle is exceptionally nice, showing carvings, gold & platinum inlays, and engraving of exceptional quality. The barrel is made of Ia Kruppuchner cast steel, which was of high quality. Proof marks indicate the rifle is in 8.15x46R caliber. The barrel has not been relined and has the finest style of fluting. The top of the barrel, for the first half, features inlays in gold and what is believed to be platinum. The left side of the action shows three stags in a woodland scene. The right side shows a dog and a chamois in a wooded mountain scene. The bottom of the action has a starburst pattern inlaid in gold. The breech block features delicate gold inlays on the rear. The trigger guard has gold and silver inlaid with what appears to be a monogram plate and houses a double set trigger. The wood is also very elaborate. The beautifully carved buttstock features a red stag on the right side. The forearm, held on by a key, is carved in the foliate style. Remnants of an old target have been added under finish to the keel of the stock. The pewter, hooked buttplate is heavily engraved with the serial number "11211". The rifle also features a large-disc peep sight (adjustable for windage and elevation) and a hooded front sight (drift adjustable for windage). All aspects of this rifle are fully and finely engraved, including escutcheons, screw heads, and the sight base.
