Description:
A Ballard #5 in .45 Govt. 30 inch octagonal barrel. Measures 1.04 inches at the muzzle and 1.15 inches at the breech. The lever closes with a crisp "snap" and the triggers work as expected of a Marlin Ballard. They are great. The wood is good showing some signs of 130+ years of use. The forearm has been professionally strengthened with pins. The metal surely was blued at one time, but I can find no proof of that. The cleaning rod is a replacement as is the rear sight. Probably so with the front also, but both sights look good. The bore attests to its use in the black powder era. It's rough. Some years ago I tried it in an informal BPCR match. It wasn't competitive, however it showed good enough that it has taken two buffalo and a caribou during my ownership. REDUCED.
