Description:
General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1941, .410 Gauge, 6lbs, Chokes M/F, LOP 14 1/16", DAH 2 3/8", DAC 1 5/16"
Serial Number: FWE192996

How nice it is to find a low production GRADED L.C. Smith .410 with high factory original condition!  This little Ideal Grade has most all its bold, vivid case colors, factory wood finish, and blue, with no restoration work of any kind.  One of only 232 ever made, only 140 with ejectors, she is truly a collector/investor grade Classic American Double.  Built in 1941 by Hunter Arms Co. Inc., snFWE192996 has been very well cared for and stored, and shot very little. It has been shot, as there is wear on the trigger guard blue and a bit of loss of the case color on the bottom of the action, so it is a gun you won’t feel bad shooting either.  As most experienced double gun shooter/collectors know, the small bores, especially the .410’s, are the most sought after of all the vintage doubles.  There were so few made and to find the near mint guns is to find the most desirable.  There cannot be more than a handful of Ideal Grade .410’s on earth as nice as this one.  The 26” barrels retain 99% dark factory blue, have mirror perfect bores, 3” chambers, crisp, sharp lettering and stamps, choked M/F, the favorable low-profile game rib that is tight to the barrels, barrels tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face just he way you like to find them.  The action shows 92% vivid factory case color, with perfect screws, clear, sharp engraving, and the ejectors are strong and perfectly timed, all mechanics in excellent condition.  THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, the action and forend iron having been stripped to the smallest part, all parts Ultrasonic cleaned to remove the old, dried oil and gunk, each part inspected for integrity and function, lubricated properly and reassembled.  The top lever is well right of center and the gun feels like a new gun.  The original factory wood measures the factory correct 14 1/16” LOP to the factory buttplate…a real find on a .410 as most were cut short for kids or women.  There are no cracks or repairs in the wood and the finish appears to be factory original and 99% all there.  Even the forend escutcheon retains 99% of the original charcoal blue.  Interestingly, the gun was engraved by the early American Master Engraver Joseph Loy, as evidenced by his stylized “signature” near the top of the action on the right and left side.  Loy retired as one of Remington Arms premier engravers in 1940 and was known to do contract work for other companies throughout his career.  An Ideal Grade was a bit below his usual work, but my guess is a man who worked all his life as an engraver had no clue how to NOT engrave!  THIS IS A MOST HONEST, UNTOUCHED, FACTORY ORIGINAL .410 IN EXTRAORDINARY CONDITION AND VERY RARE TO FIND…ONE OF 140 EVER MADE.  Weighing 6lbs. and choked for the field, it is just in time for your dove hunts and chasing down soft feathered upland birds, ie quail, grouse, and woodcock to name a few.  A premium American side x side in the diminutive .410 chambering ready for you!  Thanks for looking!
