Description:
The French were leaders in arms production, optics and photography during the 19th century and this fine firearm is testament to that legacy. Posssibly the strongest well made revolver ever this model 1873 is built like a brick out-house with all matcning numbers including the screws. Comes with French walnut hand checkered wood grips in very good condition, and the exterior metal is in the white as issued. Proofs are evident and the writing and numbers are clear. Locks up like a bank vault , this fine gun was made famous but the movie called: "THE MUMMY." The service revolver model 1873 Chamelot-Delvigne was the first double-action revolver used by the French Army. It was produced by Manufacture d'armes de Saint-Étienne from 1873 to 1887 in about 337,000 copies. Although replaced by the Modele 1892 revolver, it was nevertheless widely used during the First World War, and issued to reserve units in 1940. The Resistance made widespread use of it during the Occupation. The right side flat ehind the cartridge gate has very fine corrosion from the sweat of a hand, as many were used in Equatoral Africa also. SA and Da both lock up good..
The model 1874, of which 35,000 were made, was an officer's version. It differs from the model 1873 by having a lighter structure and a darker finish.
