Description:
John Moses Browning is arguably the most influential gun maker that has ever lived. An ingenious engineer, several of Browning's designs resulted in what are considered to be among the most innovative and significant firearms of the late 19th century and early 20th century. Browning saw an opportunity to develop a cheap and powerful over/under shotgun for under $150, manifesting in the form of the Superposed. Due to his untimely death Browning would never see the release of his final project. However, his relationship with Belgian manufacturers Fabrique Nationale - Herstal (FN) would ensure Browning's mission would not dwindle after his passing. John Moses Browning's Superposed shotguns prior to World War II, were manufactured in four different grades varying in price, engravings, and quality of the wood blanks used in construction. While the engraving on some models appears minimal during an initial observation, the rich wood and checkering, and delicate hand engraved designs readily make themselves apparent and are hard to ignore upon close inspection. While the prospect of a Browning over/under shotgun caught the attention of many when it was first introduced in the 1930s, the Superposed model was simply at the right place at the wrong time. John Moses Browning released his Superposed design at the onset of the Great Depression, a time when many people could not even afford the most basic of household supplies, never-the-less a brand-new shotgun. (Standard Grade $107.50, Pigeon Grade $175.00, Diana Grade $277.00, and Midas Grade $374.00). Despite Browning's efforts to reduce the cost of production, the Nazi invasion of Belgium in the 1940s effectively commandeered the manufacturing facilities of FN. Browning sporting arms would not return to business until after World War II. 12 Gauge
