Manhattan Arsenal U.S. Springfield Rifle .45-70 Sealed Box. The majority of boxes that you see for sale are usually Frankford Arsenal. The Manhattan Arsenal is a seldom seen cartridge box especially factory sealed and in good condition. The box does show a small indentation on the top right corner. Refer to photo’s. The white specs that you see on the bottom of the box are NOT glue but where someone picked at the waxed coating of the box. The same thing holds true for the two specks on the top, someone picked at the wax coating.
The Manhattan Arsenal was started in 1833 and closed down in 1920. The callout on the box is 55 grains of Musket powder – Bullet Weight of 405 Grains. The box label shows the headstamps to be Frankford Arsenal and Manufactured January of 1879. It appears that the cases were manufactured at the Frankford Arsenal but loaded at the Manhattan Arsenal.
The box is in overall very good condition with the original pull string still attached.
