This is a handsome, center-hammer, folding-trigger turn-off pistol that has an overall mottled gray patina with thin freckling on the barrel and other surfaces. The cylindrical portion of the framel is maker marked on either side: "JN. MANTON / & SON" and "DOVER STRt / LONDON" on the sides. Additionally, the side walls of the box frame have small martial vignette engraving on either side. Simple foliate and geometric engraving is present on the remaining metal surfaces. The checkered bag-0shaped walnut grips are in fine shape with some minor handling marks and blemishes scattered about. The octagonal silver escutcheon on the butt is engraved with a prominent anchor and dolphin motif that is still clearly delineated despite a collection of small handling marks and scratches. The lock is still fully functional, and the sliding safety still works. This is a splendid little British flintlock pistol, with unusual naval, or maritime embellishment.
