Description:
A very colorful Harpers Ferry musker with an 840 dated lock, and a 29 1/2" SB barrel of about .65 cal. Looks to me like a put together for the Confereracy as the parts are all aged and this was done a long time ago. Medal is in the white and the top of the barrel has stamped OPERA HOUSE. This was used by the Goodspeed Opera House on the Connecticut river as a prop, and most likely was gotten from the GAR post many years ago. Has an iron ramrod, and the nose cap/band has the font sight. with no provision for a rear sight. The Confederate calvary used smooth bore muskets with short barrels, so they could be fired under arm. The America walnut wood is complete and soild and with aged stains and wear , with a chip out of the end near the butt-plate. The bore is corroded with shallow oxidation half way down, and the remainder is clean.
