Serial Number #70; 12 ga. with unique flip open breech, 26 1/2" barrel & pitted bores. Mechanically good & gun has brown to silver patina w/original stock. Overall in good condition for age. Several hundred were made circa 1865-1871. Double triggers and double hammers with all functioning correctly. 12 gauge, 26 1/2" barrels. Trapdoor breech fitted with a locking lever with the serial number on the inside. The breech trapdoor is marked Ethan Allen & Co. Worcester Mass. with 1858, '60 and '65 patent dates. The frame, tangs, triggerguard, hammers and border around the trapdoor are all scroll engraved. With checkered walnut pistol grip stock and forearm with two escutcheons. Only a few hundred of these shotguns were produced. Ethan Allen 12 Gauge Hinge-Breech double barrel shotgun. This shotgun features an unusual breech block that is unlatched by the lever on its right side. It then swings to the left for loading and unloading. The remainder of the metal has smooth blue/gray patina. The breechblock is marked “Ethan Allen & Co. Worcester Mass / Allen’s Pats Nov 9. 1858. Sept 18. 1860 Aug 23. 1865. Buttstock has a checkered wrist and very good condition semi-fancy wood. There are no cracks or chips. The forend is checkered. The action functions correctly. Do not fire modern loads in this shotgun with its Damascus barrels. They were designed for black powder shells only.
