This is a beautiful vintage West German-manufactured Colt Sauer Grand African Model rifle chambered in the extremely powerful .458 Winchester Magnum cartridge. This Grand African model was designed to take any dangerous game on the planet, and look very good doing so! Built sometime between 1974 and 1985 by J.P. Sauer in West Germany on contract for the Colt firm, this Colt Sauer rifle features a spectacular high-polish gloss blue finish that these rifles are well-known for. There simply is not a better hand-polished factory production rifle out there than this. The high gloss blue finish rates 98%, and you will find it very hard to find anything worthy of the 2% deduction. The barrel is 24" inches long and comes with factory adjustable iron sights that consist of shallow-V quick-acquisition adjustable rear sight blade and a hooded front blade with a bead. The bore is in mint condition, free from any imperfections whatsoever and with perfect sharp rifling throughout. The receiver itself is drilled and tapped from the factory for optics but does not show any evidence of having any mounts on it previously, with perfect plug screws with unturned slots that are nearly all "in-time" with each other. The hand-tuned and polished action on this Colt Sauer is so slick and smooth it feels like it is riding on ball bearings. You really have to feel it in person to truly appreciate how perfectly fit the action is. The 4-round single stack magazine is detachable and in excellent condition, and the factory trigger is an adjustable model for poundage and travel. The original factory stock on this Grand African is in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/dings. The forearm and wrist features hand-cut checkering that is crisp and clean, and the factory Rosewood forend tip and pistol grip cap are in excellent condition and perfectly fit to the wood. The buttstock is factory-fitted with a Colt-braded recoil pad, and the length of pull is 13.75" inches to the end of the pad. As you can see from the pictures, the stock has a beautiful reddish-tinted glossy factory finish to it, and the wood shows only a few minor little handling and storage marks. It is very apparent that this piece of wood was specifically chosen for this rifle, as the grain is incredibly tight and straight for maximum strength given the purpose and chambering of the rifle. The buttstock comes with a factory installed lower sling swivel stud, and the barrel is fit with the upper sling stud mount. This Colt Sauer Grand African would be a superb addition to any rifle collection, whether you plan to take it afield for dangerous game or put it up as a long-term investment.
