Description:
This is a very handsome early-production Remington Model 141 pump-action rifle chambered in the potent .35 Remington cartridge.  This rifle was made the 2nd year of production for this model, 1936, and it remains in excellent overall condition both inside and out.  The pump-action repeater Remington Model 141 was first introduced in 1935 and remained in production for 15 years until 1950.  The Model 141 featured a quick take-down design and was offered in 4 calibers, .25 Remington, .30 Remington, .32 Remington, and .35 Remington.  It was fit with a 24" inch barrel with iron sights, and was fed from the under-barrel tubular magazine.  The tubular magazine was unique in that the body was manufactured with spirals in it to allow the safe use of ballistically-superior pointed bullets.  The spiral design would offset the pointed tips of the ammo in the magazine so that they would not contact the primer ahead of them.  The factory American Walnut stock set consisted of a smooth buttstock with a checkered blued steel buttplate and a ribbed forearm, both of which were finished with a gloss clearcoat.  The Remington Model 141 (later called the "Gamemaster") quickly proved to be an excellent rifle, very well-made, extremely reliable, and deadly accurate.  In the northeastern U.S. the Model 141 chambered in .32 Remington and .35 Remington were particularly popular with big-woods deer and black bear hunters who valued knock-down power and quick but accurate follow-up shots.  Despite Remington coming out with multiple pump-action "Gamemaster" rifles after discontinuing the Model 141 in 1950, none of them would ever match the original's stellar reputation.  Today the original Model 141's are sought-after by collectors and shooters alike, with high-condition all-original examples in .35 Remington being the most sought-after, and examples in .25 Remington the most valuable due to that chambering lasting less than 1 year.  This particular example is chambered in .35 Remington and appears to have been used very little over the years.  The factory blue finish is in great shape overall, rating 92 to 94%.  The only deductions are from some very minor handling/storage marks, some light finish wear mainly on the magazine tube, and some scattered pin-prick spotting from previously removed surface rust.  All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and the brass cartridge head insert on the left side of the receiver is in excellent condition.  All of the screws in this gun including the take-down screw have clean slots and perfect heads.  The bore in the 24" inch barrel is in excellent condition, with sharp and strong lands and grooves in the rifling and no pitting or visible erosion.  The internals in this Remington are in superb condition and exceptionally clean, showing ZERO mechanical wear.  The two halves of the rifle fit together smoothly and are perfectly tight with no slop.  The original stock set is in very good shape overall on this Remington.  The forearm and buttstock are a perfect match to each other in both color and degree of wear.  The buttstock shows only some superficial minor handling marks and is completely free of any cracks, chips, or repairs.  The factory clearcoat is 95% plus intact and the factory buttplate is in great shape, both perfectly fit to the stock and tight to the wood.  The forearm also shows some superficial handling marks but no bad spots or eyesores.  There is a small crack in the forearm right in the middle of the bottom edge, however the way the forearm is attached to the gun keeps it tight, closed, and stable.  The only way it could get worse would be to remove the screws on either side of the forearm and manually spread it apart.  The factory clearcoat is bright and clear, rating 95% plus intact.  The grooves in either side of the forearm are crisp, clean, and free from damage.  The action on this Remington is smooth and precise, and the lock-up to the barrel is perfectly tight with no wiggle.  The bolt face look like-new, as does the extractor.  All of the controls on this Model 141 are in perfect working order, including the push-button bolt release on the right side of the bolt.  We have no doubt that this Remington Model 141 will still function and shoot just as reliably and accurately today as the day it originally left the factory 85 years ago back in 1936.  This Remington Model 141 would be an excellent addition to any general vintage rifle collection or focused Remington collection.
