Two-piece oil-finished walnut stocks. When this carbine was converted and refinished (ca. 1867) at the Sharps Rifle Mfg. Co. factory, all markings but for the serial number were obliterated. Condition is good, showing a brownish gunmetal gray patina with scattered pitting and roughness to metal parts. Stocks are sound, showing the expected nicks and dings of military use and storage; left side inlet for sling ring plate removed, likely at time of conversion. Action functions normally.
