Description:
This is for the serious Boss Gun collector.

Based on Donald Dallas's book on Boss shoguns, this SN 2858 was made in 1870.

It is a Boss 12 gauge Crossover Hammer Gun made with the Henry Jones rotary underlever action.  It is tight, with zero headspace issues. It still operates like a new gun
The 27 inch barrels are complete replacements (NOT Sleeved) and are marked "English Steel".  The top rib is engraved "Barrels made for Boss & Co 73 St.  James St. London".  Although no provenance to confirm, the barrels were most likely made for Boss by Westley Richards as they did a great deal of that type of work.

The rib is a game rib and both top and bottom ribs are tight. The barrels retain valid 1925-1954 Birmingham 1 1/8 oz. Nitro Proof proof marks. Both barrels are stamped & remain 2 1/2 inch and were proofed at .720-.729 inch diameter.  Right Barrel measures .725 inch. Minimum wall thickness is .060 inches. Left Barrel measures .726 with .055 minimum wall thickness.

Both barrels employ conical parallel chokes that were standard by the 1920s. The parallel sections being unaltered indicates that the barrels were never shortened. Right barrel is choked .007 and Left barrel is choked .015.

Blue is 98% with clear bright bores although does show some pitting of RT barrel visible from the muzzle.

The action body shows no case colors remaining.  The breech face shows no rust pitting and very light markings around the right striker hole.

The action contains Braziers locks that are clean, lubricated with no rust and non-rebounding hammers. The Braziers locks including the mainsprings are bent to match the curve of the stock. What incredible craftsmanship that must have taken along with the flawless inletting of the locks!

The wood is in excellent condition with beautiful figure throughout after its refinish. Checkering is excellent with flat topped diamonds as originally presented. There is no sign of wood damage, oil soaked, or repair although there is a scratch in the finish only, on the right side forward of the initial plate. Stock dimensions are 14 1/4 LOP to steel but plate, 1 5/8 inch DAC, 3 inch DAH, 2 1/4 inch cast off.  Weight is 7 lbs 5 oz.

Although the case was obviously made for this gun, it has a Steven Grant label.  I believe it was rifle case that was converted to use with this gun due to the crossover stock.  It is a steel (not wood) liner, leather covered case in reasonably good condition except for a worn rear leather hinge.

This is a unique example of Boss craftsmanship and a completely shootable gun. I have shot it with appropriate ammo from Eley by squinting my right eye closed.

Although I have not sold on GI before, I have a 26+ positive sales feedbacks on GB.  You can check those by my login of oyeme.
