Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Wonderful condition William Cashmore hammer pigeon gun, number 7468, made circa 1890 - 1894 with original Birmingham nitro 3” chambers. Re-proofed in the late 1980’s. Very nicely engraved. Double triggers, extractors, side clips, and top rib extension third bite for strength. Has low rebounding hammers that fall below the shooter’s line of sight when cocked. Weighs 7lb 13oz.Cased in a leather case with brass corners and accessories: cleaning rod, cleaning kit, snap caps, and a parts kit including strikers, main springs, and a nipple wrench.   ***   The 30” Whitworth Steel barrels were originally nitro proofed for 3” cartridges and were Birmingham re-proofed in the late 1980’s for 3-1/2 tons. Topped with a raised, solid, crosshatched wide pigeon style rib with ivory mid and front beads. The right barrel is inscribed “Wm Cashmore. Maker. Birmingham”. The left barrel is inscribed “Highest Awards. Melbourne & Tasmania” and “Whitworth Fluid Compressed Steel”. The barrels were re-blacked recently and look great. The right barrel is bored 0.734 with a constriction of 0.023 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.031. The left barrel is bored 0.735 and has a constriction of 0.029 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.030.   ***   Stocked with a fabulous piece of English walnut with Prince of Wales style swept back pistol grip and splinter forearm. Gold shield on rear of comb. There are a few handling marks on stock and forearm from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 14-1/4” including a 5/8” recoil pad by 1-5/8” by 1-7/8”. Cast off slightly for the righthanded shooter. Sometime in the past a thin section of the buttstock was removed and has been professionally re-attached.  ***   This is a very desirable hammer pigeon gun with current nitro proofs and in excellent mechanical condition. Nicely cased with accessories. Ideal for the flyer rings, clays and game. At this very reasonable price it won’t last long. Isn’t time to reward yourself for all those years of working for the man?   ***  No FFL required as this is classified as an Antique Firearm. Buyer is responsible for all shipping and insurance charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing. Photos are part of the description.   ***   Come and see this great double and other fine firearms at the MacNab booth at the Vintage Gunners Cup September 15th --- 18th, 2021 at Hausmann’s Hidden Hollow Sporting Clays in Friendsville, PA.
