Description:
The A. H. Fox Gun Company was founded in 1904 by Ansley H. Fox in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1929 the company was acquired by the Savage Arms Company. The most desirable of the Foxes are the ones made in Philadelphia before the sale to Savage. Today we are selling a Philadelphia Fox A grade serial number 26,302 that was made in 1921. It’s a 12 gauge and has 30 inch Chromox Fluid Compressed Steel barrels with 2 ¾ inch chambers. Chokes are full and full so it’s definitely a pheasant or waterfowl gun. The bores are super bright without a ding or frosting. The barrels were professionally reblued recently and have no surface wear of any kind. The barrel writing is sharp and readable. Extractors, not ejectors. The receiver has the standard A grade engraving. It has silvered up by now with no case hardening remaining, not unusual for a 100 year old piece, but the engraving is still sharp to the touch. The left recoil shield has a couple of miniscule pin-point sized marks but they are so small that they blend in with the engraving. This is a double trigger gun with an automatic safety and a rounded pistol grip. The well figured stock has been nicely refinished and has no dings or scratches. The checkering, however, is worn quite flat and with the forend needs to be recut. The butt is finished with a Pachmayr “White Line” recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 5/8 inches so without the pad there is still 14 inches of wood left. Drop at comb is 1 1/4 inches. Drop at heel is 2 3/8 inches, nice modern dimensions. An absolutely great original Philadelphia Fox just waiting to go out into the field once again. Don’t let this beauty slip by you. C&R or FFL required. $65.00 shipping (shipping keeps getting more and more expensive) and insurance to your FFL dealer in the lower 48 states to be paid by buyer. Alaska and Hawaii cost a bit more. I accept cashier’s checks, US Postal money orders and personal checks only (piece held until check clears). Please make all checks out to Sargent Collier and mail to PO Box 2300, Mason, NH 03048. Call me at 603 498-0557 if you have any questions. If you can’t reach me, be sure to leave a message because I’m traveling frequently. Payment is expected within 7 days of closing. I am an FFL dealer and will enclose a copy of my license with shipment of modern guns. Also, check out my : antiquesandgunscom for some rare and exotic offerings. Good luck and thanks for looking.
