Contract revolver for the Mexican Army with 5.5"" barrel. Left sideplate is marked ""Ejercito Mexicano"" The barrel top strap over the cylinder is marked exactly the same. The contract was for 5000 revolvers for special or elite troops. The Pieper Revolver was made as an official issue gun in 1893 by presidential decree. Grips are marked ""Pieper Patent."" Grips show handling wear but no cracks, chips or abuse. This is a seven-shot gas seal revolver. The cocking hammer makes the cylinder move slightly forward to provide a seal with the cylinder and the breech of the barrel so as to not lose pressure when firing. Well made and stunning revolver. Top rib of the barrel has some army issue marks. Overall excellent condition for a scarce model.
