Description:

Kornbrath engraved Griffin & Howe #841 Springfield Carbine in 7x57 Mauser with an 18 1/2" Poldi-Anticorro barrel with banded ramp front sight and integral quarter rib with one standing and three folding leaves all with gold center lines. Bore is excellent. Front sight and quarter rib stippled with Kornbrath engraving of muzzle and breach ends of the barrel as well as the quarter rib. Early Springfield receiver with cursive serial number, engine turned bolt, and checkered and engraved bolt knob. Never drilled and tapped. Floorplate and trigger guard exhibit extensive Kornbrath scroll and acanthus leaf engraving with the original owners initials on the floorplate as well as gold inlay. Stocked in figured European Walnut with a shadow line pancake cheekpiece, engraved steel pistol grip cap, fine point pattern checkering, and a horn forend tip.  13 1/2" LOP to a Silver's pad. Weighs in at 6lb 14oz
This is a very nice piece in a great caliber and rare configuration by Griffin & Howe, the premier American gunmakers of the early 20th Century and extensively engraved by Rudolph Kornbrath, the premier engraver of that time period. I believe the stock has been professionally refinished but the checkering remains original. Engraving is crisp and masterful. Excellent value in this great piece of early Americana.
