Description:
Taking offers; estate sale 1st weekend in October. E.C. Ogden of London, 12 gauge sidelock by master custom gunmaker from Golden Era of British shotgun craftsmanship. From estate sale, available 29 September for only 1 week in Tucson, AZ.
This small boutique gunmaker is a rare find, one of the master craftsmen from the early 20th century London gun trade. In outstanding condition, serial number H66##, made in 1920 during the height of the UK gun trade "between the wars."
Chambers were extended in 2001 to accommodate modern 2 & 3/4" (70 mm) shells, and nitro proof retested as safe for contemporary loads with London proof marks. The gun underwent complete disassembly, lubrication & servicing by master gunmaker Richard Gallyon (Gallyon & Sons, Norfolk) in 2001, this safe queen has been in long term storage and unused since then.
Exact measurements will be taken in September, but the barrels have excellent wall thickness measurements, 30" barrels with extractors, and bored 1/4 and full choke. Handsome well figured stock with dark grain & professional extension to accommodate today's taller shooters, the overall balance with the longer stock & barrels offers perfectly balanced shooting. Lightweight and moves like an extension of your arm.
Hand engraved sidelocks are beautifully polished and are bolstered by the maker's name on each side. This masterpiece is housed in its canvas and leather gun case from Gallyons, and includes chrome snap caps, cleaning rods, and cleaning supplies.
An exceptional handmade masterpiece from a scarce London maker. This curio & relic will be shipped via FFL to your FFL dealer. The most recent comp for a similar rare Ogden sold online in 2009 for $5300 (item #123085963); this fully functional collector's item is competitively priced at $4995.
