Description:
Super rare R.G. Owen sidelock ejector 20ga double likely made in the late 20's looks exactly like a best quality James Woodward with fantastic arcaded fences and best quality rose and scroll engraving. Some has said this gun was engraved by Rudolph Kornbrath, though it is unsigned, it is well known that Kornbrath engraved many or even most of Owen's high grade guns. This gun, a two barrel set 20ga, one set in 27" and one set in 28". The gun has best quality Chilton Locks and was made with two forends, Miller single trigger, straight hand stock of best quality English Walnut which terminates with a 1" pad. "SAFE" in gold in front of safety. Both sets of barrels are original to the gun, they are chopper lump manufacture with third bite. The gun is housed in its original case as seen in the photos. The original trigger is included in the case as are original pattern information from "The Harvard Club" in NY, both on paper and on a trade label on the interior top of the case.
Overall this gun remains in excellent original condition with more than 97% original barrel blue on both sets of barrels. The stocks are sound and excellent and retain most of their original finish with some finish added for preservation. The gun retains a pile of original case color, more than 85% dark and bold color. The bores are brilliant and shiny. The mechanics are crisp. This gun remains in superb original condition. The case is very good with scuffs and rub marks and some separation of interior compartments.
The quality of this gun cannot be overstated - it is spectacular and special in every regard. If this was a Lefever, it would easily be a AA Grade, - a Parker AAHE, Fox DE or FE, and an L.C. Smith Premier quality gun. R.G. Owen guns are known for their high quality and this is one of the finest of his shotguns known to knowledgeable collectors. This is your chance!
