Description:
STEVENS GALLERY MODEL 80 IN SUPER RARE .25 STEVENS CALIBER, #17XXX, ONLY MADE FROM 1906-1910. Most collectors, even Stevens collectors, are somewhat familiar with this limited production pump rifle, but few have ever seen one in .25 Stevens (.25 Stevens RF) caliber. I've only seen a couple in the last few decades. Almost all of this model were made in .22 S., L., & LR Rim Fire. The .25 Stevens was actually a fairly long rim fire case that was actually LONGER than the more modern .22 Magnum rim fire of today. It had quite a good reputation as a small game round that outclassed the .22 rim fires of the time. As a tube fed pump rifle, one can clearly see the long length of this cartridge by the length of the opening on the bottom of the mag tube where cartridges are inserted. Many of this model were used as "gallery guns" hence the model name, and of course, those were all used with .22 Short ammo in carnivals, fairs, shooting galleries etc. The Model 80 was a takedown with only the swivel head screw ahead of the trigger guard needing to be unscrewed to remove the stock from the barreled action. This caliber special rifle was made for the hunting fields and I believe is the only pump rifle ever made in this caliber. Wood is excellent with original Stevens butt plate, bore is bright and excellent (!),  and nearly all the blue remains on the barrel, magazine, action etc. with only normal very light edge wear etc. Markings are excellent including the "GALLERY MODEL 80"  barrel stamping. Original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact paired with a small blade/bead front sight. An outstanding example of a rifle not usually encountered in either caliber and most  that are seen are hard used.
