Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Handsome Army & Navy hammergun with highly figured English walnut stock, 30” Damascus barrels and elaborately sculpted hammers. Lots of case coloring on action, sideplates and the hammers plus the much sought-after sidelever opening. Made circa 1875 to 1887 this great handling hammergun, most likely manufactured by W.C. Scott, is a great vintage hammergun for game or clays. Weight is 7lb 2oz.   ***   The 30” Damascus barrels are nicely browned, chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and have extractors which produces a low profile action body. The barrels are topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The rib is inscribed “Army & Navy. C. S. L. London”. Typical for guns of this era the bores have some very light pitting but are shiny nonetheless, most likely the result of polishing some time in the past. The right barrel is bores 0.734 with a constriction of 0.008 for Light Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.034. The left barrel is bored 0.736 and has a constriction of 0.027 for Improved Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The barrels have their original black powder proof but with their great wall thickness can safely shot with low pressure ammunition.   ***   The handsome straight grip stock and splinter forearm were crafted from highly figured English walnut. The forearm has a pendulum style opening lever. The finish is in great condition but the checkering shows a little wear and there are some handling marks from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 15” including a 1” recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 1-1/2”. Cast off for the right hand shot.   ***   This is a great vintage hammergun that will perform equally well on game or clays. You will be proud to uncase it at the range or carry it afield.   ***   Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense.
