Description:
Very rare lightweight Model 1894 in "DE" Grade. These early high grade 1894's are some of the finest engraved of all of the American Doubles- no doubt the gun makers in upstate NY like Lefever, Hunter Arms, and Remington had access to the best engraving artists in America, and this gun is no exception! Made with original 28" Pieper damscus barrels, splinter forend with Curtis pushbutton release, double triggers, auto ejectors, capped pistol grip European Walnut buttstock which terminates with its original Silver's pad which is hardening. The gun is beautifully engraved in scroll on sides and game scene on bottom as seen in the photos, perhaps by Joseph Loy. Absolutely stunning!
This gun survives in perfect untouched original condition. The gun has never been worked on and it shows- barrels are excellent with more than 90% bold original pattern remaining. Stocks are excellent and sound with the exception of a small chip to one side of the forend, which occurred long ago and has since darkened. The chip is smaller than the whites of a fingernail. The gun retains more than 25% original case color. Mechanics are crisp and bores are bright and shiny. The gun is tight on the face.
