FULL DELUXE MARLN TAKEDOWN 1893 1/2 OCTAGON RIFLE IN SCARCE .32 H.P.S. CALIBER, #347XXX, MADE 1906. The .32 H.P.S. as marked on the barrel stands for High Power Special which is the same as the .32 Winchester Special- obviously Marlin didn't want to concede anything at all to their major competitor Winchester! This special order rifle has fancy walnut with the steel "S" butt plate, pistol grip, checkering, 26" half-octagon barrel, half-magazine, Lyman tang sight, two-leaf rear barrel sight with small Lyman blade/bead front sight. This well taken care of rifle retains most of the only lightly aged deep blue on the barrel with the mag tube blue mixing some plum/brown. The receiver is dark mottled with traces of case color in the more protected areas- around the hammer etc. with good blue on the loading gate. The stock shows light handling marks with tight wood to metal fit and fine checkering on the pistol grip. The forend checkering shows a little more wear, but is distinct and the wood is fine. The action and takedown are tight with strong springs & strong safety half-cock on the hammer. The bore excellent. Obviously someone's pride and joy hunting rifle from 115 years ago! Hard to find caliber especially in a deluxe takedown model.
