This standard issue (also known as the second variation) ac 40 9mm P.38 was manufactured in November and December 1940. It has approx. 92% of its high gloss blue with edge and front strap wear. The slide has the standard P.38 folllowed by ac over 40 (centered vertically on the slide) followed by the serial number, 9978a, with the frame and barrel assembly numbers matching. It has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. The numbered but mismatched magazine is correct for an ac 40 P.38 pistol. The correct AEG grips are excellent. The action functions correctly. The ac 40 is scarce today, especially in fine condition like this one, as many were lost in Russia.
