SOLD A most interesting black powder faithful copy of John Alden's Wheelock carbine rifle now in a musseum, and made by L. Day of Northampton (Leonard Day) a prolific gun maker with a browned octagonal .45 cal rifled barrel of 31". The American walnut stock is finely crafted and is solid. The lock is an issue, as the only owner had sold it to me and had difficulty with the lock sometimes not working. The action works with the back set trigger pulled back and set, then the key wrench cranks the stud until tight but not over tightened and the hammer is cocked forward , while the front ytigger releases the hammer . However sometimes the hammer is not released. The interior has two steel rotating plates as I think one gets hung up. My black smith gunsmith has looked it over and he is not familiat with wheelock mechanisms. Gun is original and complete but needs someone that can tinker with the mechanism, as each wheelock maker created a different working mechanism. Worth restorationes with the makers original key. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting. To buy a gun from me you must get a direct email for me, with details, and shipping cost.
