MUNCH & CIE Double Barrel SxS HAMMERLESS Shotgun C&R BEAUTIFULLY ENGRAVED 16 Gauge Germanic Fowling Piece! Here we present a C&R E. Munch & Cie Side by Side Double Barrel Hammerless 16 Gauge Shotgun, made circa the turn of the century in Frankfurt, Germany. These German shotguns are known for their quality of workmanship and unprecedented accuracy. This is a very Germanic field piece that is elegant with its intricate engravings, nicely figured and carved stock, and its use of horn for the underlever, trigger guard, and pommel cap. The engravings feature 3 main panels. The one on the left depicts bounding hares, the one on the right a fox pursuing some ducks, and the one on the top of the tang a stag. Each panel’s surrounds are nicely detailed and each has a darker punch-dotted background. Other engraved panels are found throughout, characterized by oak leaf scroll. The breeches of the barrels are gold banded and the maker’s mark on the barrel is inlaid in gold as well. The barrels show a faint Damascene twist pattern under a later blue finish. The stock is nicely figured, the butt plate is fluted and checkered on the back, and made of wood. There is a Germanic style cheek rest on the left side for a right-handed shooter. The pistol grip comes to a squared pommel which is capped in horn. The pistol grip to the stock/receiver joint is hand-checkered, as is the splinter forearm. This one has internalized hammers, with dual triggers. The wingnut shaped safety is mounted on top of the receiver tang. The overall condition is fine. The action is strong all around. Bright, smooth bores. The stock is solid with sharp checkering. The engravings on the frame depict multiple game scenes and are finely detailed. This example has gold inlays atop the barrel.
