Description:
General Specs: Beretta, Year 1953; 1959 30"barrels, 12 Gauge both, Weight #1, 7lbs 3o;  #2, 7lbs 4oz
Serial Number: 10717

In the world of fine shotguns, Beretta is a well-known entity.  From utilitarian guns to some of the finest "BEST GUNS" ever produced, you can find what you are looking for in the Beretta line up.  Beretta created their low-profile action for their over/under guns and reserved the “S Series” as special-order guns with hand engraved sidelock actions, beautifully figured wood with deluxe checkering, hand assembled and balanced to perfection.  Later in production the “S Series” became known as the “SO Series” to designate the “SPECIAL ORDER” nature of these fine shotguns.  The S3 Grade eventually was renamed the SO3, then in the last decade renamed the SO9 Grade.  All the designations represent the same level of lavishness, just different time periods.  The gun we are presenting for sale here is a S3 Grade 12ga. sn10717 built in 1953, during the time-period when Beretta was still producing fabulous guns.  This S3 is hand-engraved in the old-world way with 90% coverage of beautiful vine and floral style engraving mixed with finely executed scroll work, and adorned with nicely figured European walnut stocks, finely checkered with 28lpi hand-cut checkering, and in the English, straight hand style that makes for such a great upland gun.  This gun is a perfect set up for the upland hunter, having two sets of barrels to cover all the different birds and seasons, with one set 28” Chrome Molybdenum Superior steel with a solid rib, choked IC/M, and a second set of 30” Boehler Antinit Steel barrels choked M/F.  Both sets are premium steel barrels reserved for the finest guns, with mirror bores, lots of wall thickness, 99% barrel blue, no dents, and set up tight on the breech face and trunnions showing no signs of wear.  The gun weighs 7 1/4lbs. with both sets of barrels and both balance 3/16” forward of the trunions.  The action has the Kersten cross bolt lock up, crisp single trigger, near invisible screws in perfect condition and the mechanics are excellent.  Look closely at the photos and you will see features that make the Beretta S3 series a true BEST GUN.  The shallow, narrow frame is hand filed with beaded fences, rebated frame to hold the head of the stock, gracefully flared bolsters under the breech of the top barrel, frame sculpted on the sides and bottom, stocked to the fences and a finely shaped long tang trigger guard.  The Beretta S3 from this time-period is a special gun, and only a few ever come up for sale.  This gun has some of the nicest figured wood of any I have seen, with excellent shooting dimensions and the most desirable chokes for upland hunting and sporting clays.  Cased in a lovely European leather case, custom fit to the gun and both sets of barrels, with Beretta “makers” label, and a custom fit protective cover for travel.  The case is a $2500 value and a must have for a 2-barrel set.  Whether you chase feathered game or love smoking clay targets, this rare Beretta S3 two-barrel set will cover all your shotgun sports with style!  We are offering the gun at a very affordable price just in time for clay target season that is upon us so you can be well practiced next fall.  Thanks for looking!
