Description:
Serial #60905, .230 RF, 10" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has mild mild freckling along its length. This is a late model pistol with automatic extractor, but built on an early frame, that has a “S. GRANT 67 St. JAMES’S St. LONDON" (Stephen Grant) retailer name along the top flat of the barrel. The metal has an overall pewter gray patina with spots of mottled dark freckling throughout. The metal has intricate, full coverage scrollwork engraving, as well as the usual Tranter “football" marking on the left side of the frame. The genuine mother-of-pearl grips are in good shape, but have some dark chips along the edges of both panels, and the action lock-up is still tight, with almost no lateral play. This is the very gun pictured and described on pg. 168 and 169 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; (2007), where the gun is described as one made with “left over parts" after Tranter’s Aston Road factory had been taken over by Kynoch, thus the mix of early frame and automatic extractor. This is an interesting and handsome pistol, and rates very good condition overall. Antique
