Description:
"Serial Number 5020. Made in 1874. 45 LC with a 7 ½" barrel. This is a cavalry model inspected by O. W. Ainsworth. The metal of this gun has been cleaned and now has a gray patina. This gun is all matching. The “US" and the patent dates have been removed as well as the “U.S.A." in the barrel address. During the period of use, this was often done to guns captured by hostile Indians. There are several guns in the same serial range that also had their “US" and patent dates removed. This is an exceptional gun as it was part of Lot 5 of the US Cavalry models. These guns were issued to the 7th Cavalry and had a high probability of being part of the battle of the Little Big Horn. This comes with a letter from noted Colt expert John Kopec. He notes the historic significance of this revolver and points out minor alterations. Very fine Colt Custer era 7th Cavalry issued Colt Single Action Army!
