This gun This gun has had the metal cleaned and the metal has a light brown patina. The grips are very good as period replacements. The “US" and the patent dates on the left hand side of the frame have been removed. This is very commonly found on both the Indian captured guns and deserter guns. This gun was part of lot 6 issued to the US Cavalry and lot 5 and 6 were the guns shipped to the 7th cavalry. Several gun in the same serial range have provenance to the 7th cavalry and the battle of the little big horn. This gun comes with a letter from noted Colt expert John Kopec.
