Description:
This is a very handsome and clean High Standard .22LR semi-automatic pistol model called "The Sharpshooter".  Built in 1973 in Hamden, the first year for "The Sharpshooter" model in the "numbered series", this High Standard has obviously spent most of it's life in storage and is in perfect mechanical condition.  This model was introduced in 1973 as the firm's mid-level serious target pistol in their "numbered series" and remained in production until 1981.  The "numbered series" of High Standard pistol were models made between 1972 and 1975 that did not have an additional model name or series like M102, M104, G prefix, SH Series, Sport King, Etc..  This High Standard model was every bit as accurate as some of the more expensive dedicated target pistols and had just as many features, it just wasn't as highly polished or finished.  "The Sharpshooter" featured a combination matte and gloss blue factory finish, a 5.5" inch bull barrel with a recessed target crown, a push-button quick-change barrel release, a left side frame-mounted thumb safety, a right side frame-mounted slide stop/hold-open, a wide grooved target trigger, adjustable target sights, checkered American Walnut target grips with a right-side thumb shelf, a heel-mounted magazine release, and a 10-round single-stack magazine.  This High Standard Sharpshooter quickly earned a reputation as a superb target pistol that was extremely accurate, well-made, and reliable at a much lower cost than some of the other High Standard models.  It was a good seller for High Standard throughout it's production run.  This particular example is one of the more desirable earlier-production Hamden guns, serial number 2427345, and it remains in 100% original condition.  As you can see from the pictures, this High Standard is still very handsome and retains all of it's original finish.  There is no visible mechanical wear to the factory finish, only some minor dark speckling from being stored dry without any oil and developing some dusty surface rust that was removed prior to us acquiring the pistol.  Given the total lack of mechanical finish wear and the pristine condition of the internals, we would be surprised if this "The Sharpshooter" has had more than a few magazines fired thru it at the VERY most.  All of the factory markings are crisp and clean, and all of the factory-original gold-fill is still intact on the model and caliber marking on the left side of the barrel.  The bore in this Sharpshooter is in flat-mint condition, free from any visible pitting, erosion, wear, or defects of any kind. The rifling still looks brand-new and razor sharp from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle.  The original grips on this High Standard are in excellent condition as well, free from any visible wear, cracks, chips, repairs, or handling marks.  Both grip panels have crisp and clean checkering with no soiling or wear, and both grip screws are in like-new condition.  The fitment of the grips to grip frame is superb and both grips are tight to the metal with no wiggle.  The action on this Sharpshooter is slick and smooth, and the recoil spring is strong.  All of the controls on this pistol are in like-new, perfect working order, including the rear windage and elevation adjustments.  The factory-tuned target trigger is excellent, breaking like a thin glass rod with light pressure and with no grit or excessive travel.  Mechanically this High Standard "The Sharpshooter" is like-new for all intents and purposes, it certainly has not even begun to be "broken-in" yet.  This pistol comes complete with one factory original 10-round magazine in excellent condition.  Whether you have been looking for a classy and handsome .22 LR target pistol that can compete with the very best semi-auto target pistols out there regardless of age, or just want to add another high-condition vintage rimfire pistol to your collection as an investment, this 1973-production High Standard "The Sharpshooter" would be an excellent choice.
