Description:
***   SOLD   ***   One of the best handling doubles I have ever had the pleasure to hold this Stephen Grant sidelock ejector was made between the wars in 1928.  Refurbished by the legendary Cyril Adams when he owned Atkin, Grant & Lang this late model Grant was re-barreled in 1972 by James Purdey & Sons and London proofed for 2-3/4” cartridges. Sidelever opening, 29” nitro proofed 2-3/4” chopper lump barrels. Nicely figured European walnut. Profusely engraved with the classic Grant signature fluted fences. Excellent bluing and wood finishes. Oak and leather cased with full accessories. Weight is 6lb 14oz.   ***   The 29” nitro steel chopper lump barrels were made by James Purdey & Sons in 1972 and nitro proofed in London at that time for 2-3/4” cartridges. They are topped by a raised solid concave game style rib. The rib is inscribed “Barrels Made By James Purdey & Sons. Audley House. South Audley Street. London. England.”. The right barrel is bored 0.733 and has a constriction of 0.008 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.031. The left is also bored 0.733 and has a constriction of 0.023 for a tight Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029.   ***   The nicely figured European walnut stock and forearm have a rich, deep hand rubbed oil finish as would be expected of a London Best. The checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 15-1/4” by 1-3/8’ by 2-1/8”. Cast off slightly for the right hand shot.   ***   This Grant is cased properly in an oak & leather period case with maker’s label, charge card, snap caps, and cleaning rod with tools. It is just what you would expect for a superb gun like this Grant. I started out by saying this was one of the finest handling guns I have ever held and I want to make this point again. Very few other doubles will even come close to it. The purchaser will not be disappointed. Opportunities for a double like this come along rarely.   ***   I am an FFL and will need a signed copy of your dealer’s FFL license. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense.
