Description:

John Rigby & Co. 72 St. James's St London .275 Rigby Mauser built in 1899 with a 26" barrel with an excellent bore which features an island front sight, sling eye, and two leaf island express rear sight. The action is a Pre-98 "Transitional" small ring action, the immediate precursor to the Gewehr 98. Of the 4,185 "Transitional" actions produced, most were destroyed in testing with a few made into Mauser sporting rifles and a few sold to Rigby for sporting rifle production. From 1898 until 1912 Rigby had exclusive rights to import and disribute Mauser sporting rifles, actions, barreled actions, and components in the British Empire. This action bears Mauser #653 and Rigby #1285. It has a pear shaped commercial style bolt knob, gold inlayed "SAFE" on the flag safety, and a cocking piece peep sight. Stocked in Rigby style with a sling eye on the buttstock, Prince of Wales grip, and striated steel buttplate.  LOP is 14 1/4"   Weight 7lb 4oz
This historic piece remains in fine condition meticulously restored and cased by ACGG member Steve Bertram. It is cased in an English brass cornered canvas trunk case. With this gun in your hands you can smell the smoke of the African camp fire and hear the sounds of the savannah when you close your eyes. If only guns could talk!
