Description:
A Historically colorful 3rd model Brown Bess with worn to about .84 cal,bore and a 38 1/4" barrel with an oxidized bore. The metal surfaces are primarily a dark brown oxidized patina, the lockplate showing some old pitting and a number of antique repairs. The brass hardware is mostly a mottled ocher patina, the buttplate is secured by a single large nail The triggerguard tang has been shortened to fit this stock.The brass nose cap hs been reset with a screw as it may have become loose from long military field use and the bayonet slamming against it. The markings are somewhat legible with "TOWER" behind the cock, "(Crown) / GR" in the center of the lockplate and a regimental marking at heel of the buttplate that appears to read "79 / B". The smooth walnut stock appears to be a very old period well used and remains in good condition showing a number of old wear, and dents and possible small cracks.A rudimentary ramrod is present, and the lock is otherwise functional at times. Great hanger for the mantle and getting scarcer to find.When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
