But I did take it out the other day and shot one round at a hanging steel target at 200 yards, 5" X 24" (the target was the size of my front sight at that range) and knocked off some of that old steel rust in a cloud. See pic... I have never owned a Mannlicher Schoenauer that could not produce minute of angle results with some reloading effort. I have never shot any of mine with factory ammuntion, but I am sure it will do as well...almost?? The further good news is that this rifle has never been buggered up with holes punched for cheap scope mounts. I have several others and the ones that were scoped right had Griffin-Howe mounts installed via the plate on the left side of the rifle's receiver. Griffin-Howe still makes these mounts and they can also be found pre-owned with some dedicated looking. Yes, you can keep it unscoped...but well-scoped and you have a 350 yard sheep rifle. What is the rifle's value? Check out the bible, the 42d Editon of Fjestad's Blue Book of Gun Values and you'll find the Model 1952 Mannlicher Schoenauer listed at $2000 in 100% shape. Now is mine 100%? Coming in and out of safe's has produced a few minor stock dings, but nothing of OMG description. Metal is the same... I'd give it a 95%. You want more pics of wherever on the rifle, let me know. I trust since you've read this far you get the idea that I feel that it is the finest production rifle ever made (and I am not alone!)...The cost of that production made Steyr go to more economical models. CHUCKHAWKS The rapid increase in the cost of manufacturing Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles drove the retail price above what the average shooter could afford. When only the wealthy could afford to purchase M-S rifles, the sales of both rifles and cartridges declined. Eventually Steyr could no longer afford to produce the traditional Mannlicher-Schoenauer rifles at all, and the line was redesigned for more economical manufacture. So my asking price for a classic rifle, that makes conventional rifles at far more money look like clubs? Look at the other listings this site for Mannlicher Schoenauers...Mine is a BARGAIN! I'd estimate shipping cost/insured to your FFL holder at $65. More and I'll eat it; less and I'll refund. Rob Kornacki, US Army (Retired) SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
