Description:
SOLD...Very nice and above average 1860 Colt conversion.. Here is a real nice 1860 Colt conversion 1st model.. Standard 8” barrel and chambered for the .44 Colt center fire cartridge. The barrel is original length and has NOT been cut and "stretched" like so many have been.. This model, as well as the second model, were made up from left over 1860 percussion parts at the Colt factory starting in about 1868 to the mid 1870's..  It has all matching numbers of course 197913.. No number on the wedge as is correct.. The mechanics are excellent.. The gun is crisp and tight as new.. No side to side wobble on the cylinder and it indexes and locks up tight.. Rock solid barrel to frame fit even with the wedge removed.. All the hammer notches are perfect and positive.. The bore is very good with strong rifling and shows some minor roughness from black powder but nothing at all bad.. No rings or bulges.. The metal does have generous traces of blue on the barrel in the flutes below the wedge on both sides and all around the ejector housing. Traces of blue on the cylinder in the rebated area also. Harder to find the nice blued guns in this model as many more were nickel plated and more often found.. The metal is smooth for the most part with a little surface crud and very minor roughness on the barrel and the ejector housing but nothing bad or out of place.. It still retains the original ejector housing and the ejector rod and head. Many of these have been broken off and swapped out with the latter Colt SA rods and heads or being home made.. This one is all original.. The cylinder has an excellent cylinder scene with about 80% still very visible.. Has one area were it is worn but the rest of it is about like the photo I have of the scene.. The cylinder has a few honest bumps and dings but again, nothing bad or out of place The screw heads range from some showing turning to some that are clean with no burring.. All are very serviceable.. Perfect full front sight never filed on.. The grips are original and show wear and a chip out of the left front toe and show some honest wear on the lower corners but fit perfectly to the metal all around.. They still show about 10% original varnish on the left grip and about 20% on the right. No other chips, cracks or repairs.. All the markings are very good to excellent.. These large frame conversions were the first big bore six guns on the market and on the frontier.. Even beating the big frame Smith & Wesson by a few years as the same with the famous Colt SAA's. These are the guns that seen the big cattle drives from the deep south to the rail yards in the mid western states way before those other guns were even thought about.. A lot of history in this model.. Most were very heavily used and abused with cut barrels and re finishing.. but this one has escaped the harsh treatment and has survived very well over the years..  Here is a nice one at an affordable price.. It is not a dirt brown cluncker but it is not a $8000 safe queen either so don't miss it.. These are not rare by any means, but not that common to find for sale anymore.. $30 insured shipping.. Call 765-728-8049 for more photos or any questions you might have..
