Description: The modern variation of the 627 is very different from the original 627 introduced in 1989. The Pro Series Model 627-5 represents one of Smith & Wesson’s attempts to take full advantage of the N frame’s size and advancements in modern metallurgy. The original Model 627, like the Model 27 before it, chambered 6 rounds of the .357 Magnum. Those advances in metallurgy, however, have allowed S&W to add an additional two chambers for a total of 8 shots. While this was possible with the original 627, Smith & Wesson simply chose to stick the usual routine back in 1989. As one of the Performance Center’s special models, the Pro Series comes with a few features not found on the typical S&W revolver. These include a PC-enhanced action, chamfered charge holes, custom barrel with recessed precision crown, a bossed mainspring, and a cylinder cut for moon clips. With a barrel length of 4.0 inches, the Pro Series M627-5 is best suited to home defense or target shooting. To help, the front sight has been painted bright red by the factory for easier visibility in low-light conditions. Practicing with the .38 Special would be easy as the gun’s weight combined with the .38’s already low recoil would provide for a very smooth shooting revolver. This new in the box revolver is ready to go.
